Code Editor by Panic App Reviews

pretty cool, but no code folding?

I just bought this new iPad pro this morning and then saw this app on a website for apps that take advantage of the iPad pros size... I like that it has syntax coloring and such, but with php files that have lots and lots of functions, code folding makes it super easy to browse the file without having to see all of the code... I feel like every code editor has this... as soon as you add that in ill be sure to update my rating to 5 stars

Unintuitive, terrible documentation

Wasted too much time figuring out how to use this.

The best solution on iOS

Cant say enough. Simply the best out there, by a lot!

Incredible tool

First, I own coda 2.5 on Mac and its my favorite website building software. Coda on iOS is equally impressive but 1/10 the price! This is a steal, especially if you have an iPad pro.

False claims

Their website states scss support under the FAQ section. This app does not compile scss files render the preview feature worthless. Syntax highlighting and "support" are two different things. It parses JS on preview, why not sass? The UI is also confusing. Try opening a file for editing, then try to navigate back to your project folder to open an adjacent file. Youll experience the confusion.

So powerful - one missing piece

This app is INCREDIBLE, aside from no import option except FTP. You have to go through another app (EG Dropbox), copy the file to Coda, and then send back out to the selected app once your changes are done. Git would be incredible, but Im not holding my breath! I cant expect too much on an iPad.

A review

Latest update keeps crashing. Uncomfortable UI (actual writing is fun, but to get there is a *****) NO DROPBOX SUPPORT annnnddd the rest is great. But its hardly usable in this update. Air 2, 9.1.

Web Development Essential

Despite the fact that I downloaded this app just a week after they changed the price from free to $9.99, I do not regret buying this as all. It is by far the best IDE for web development on the App Store, even better than many desktop applications.

Quite good

I use it to update my site when I am out and about, its great!

Almost great!

I love the idea of this app. It has nice features but it consistently freezes right in the middle of coding. Frustrating! Also, the live reload in split screen does not auto reload as indicated in the documentation.

Buy it

If youre a web developer and have an iPad, buy Coda now. Its wonderful. No need to keep reading reviews, buy it now. Why are you still reading this? Hit the buy button already, you wont regret it. Youre still reading this arent you..? I dont know what else I can say about it. Coda is by far the best web dev app for iPad...also Mac...also iPhone... No, I dont work for Panic, they didnt pay me. Why are you still reading this, you could be making websites already.

Amazing

The most delightful code editor/shell/sftp app out there.

Dont Panic

I love Coda. Desktop and iOS. I have been using it since the day it came out on both platforms and wouldnt even consider moving to a different code editor. This is a must-have app.

Awesome!

I do a lot of web development and recently decided to switch to the iPad Pro and smart keyboard for my full time use coding (and other things). The Pro is great, but there is a shortage of good full featured pro apps to take advantage of it. Coda 2 is definitely one of the best apps for the iPad pro, period. Its also very nice on my iPhone. Not only does it feel like "pro" software, but it also covers up some of the short comings of IOS allowing me to do "real" work comfortably. Long story short, I love Coda 2! Just buy it!

puts the pro in ipad pro

this is one of the few pieces of software ive seen in the appstore that is truly professional. I use it on my ipad pro with impactJS to code little games while im away from my big work computer. i love it.

Great platform, BUT!

No results bar/tab for iOS development. The app allows you to code swift with amazing fluidity but unfortunately it cannot preview your code. On July 16th, 2015 they have stated that they hope to add preview support for more languages in the future. So I certainly hope to see this being developed in the near future. Unfortunately my $10 will be put to use once that is released. Make sure to visit the FAQ and not stick to what you see on the app description as it is not necessarily 100% true.

No Dropbox Support

At one point in time Coda was the only editor I would use on my iPad because it supported Dropbox. Unfortunately they have taken this away and I can no longer use it to edit the swift files in my various projects.

Barely functional

Be aware, this is neither an IDE nor a professional tool by any stretch. You can connect to servers, edit files, and theres a built-in ssh terminal. Thats it. Theres no way to search all the files in a local project, no way to find function/class usages, no way to go to a function/class declaration, no way to debug (remote or otherwise), no database integration... Functionally, this has almost nothing in common with the desktop version of Coda, let alone an actual, professional tool like, for instance, IntelliJ or PhpStorm. Until Coda (or Textastic, Codas closest competitor) gets some of these features... project-wide file search at the very least, anything remotely resembling professional web development simply wont be possible on iPad.

Keeps crashing

It looks and feels nice, good functionality. I would give it 5 stars if it wasnt crashing every 5 minutes... Yes, it just freezes and I have to close it and open it again. I had it for 48 hours now, but if no fix is available soon I will keep using Codeanywhere.

Pretty Good

I am hugely impressed. This application works so well and the built in goodies like the console and FTP client are awesome. What is missing though is version control. Currently you are able to connect to where your files are hosted and pull them down locally. You may then edit them but you arent able to push them into version control. This isnt cool because it breaks the development chain. This app will become super duper awesome once version control makes its way in. Eagerly waiting.
